Cornelia Animal Control officers are working to catch a rabid fox that attacked a person on Tower Mountain in Cornelia.
Community Development Manager Jessie Owensby says traps have been laid to catch the fox. “It did attack one human but he is okay with minor injuries,” she says. “We are asking everyone up that way (on Tower Mountain) or near the area to watch their pets for abnormal behavior, keep their eyes peeled and use extreme caution until we catch it.”
Due to the situation, the city issued a public health advisory shortly after 2:15 p.m. on Sunday.
Officials encourage pet owners who live on or near Tower Mountain to bring their pets inside if at all possible until the rabid fox is caught. Pet owners should also make certain their pets are vaccinated against rabies.
“Our animal control has been at the site all morning and they are working hard to keep everyone safe,” assures Owensby.
