A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for Habersham County and parts of Northeast Georgia until 8 a.m. Friday morning. The watch area also includes the Piedmont and Western parts of North Carolina and upstate South Carolina.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville, slow moving showers and thunderstorms may cause flooding today and tonight.

A very moist and unstable air mass and southeasterly upslope flow will persist across the area through tonight. Slow moving storms will keep the potential for heavy rain across the area through daybreak Friday.

Flooding or flash flooding is expected to result as the storms produce local amounts of 1 to 3 inches, with some areas possibly receiving up to 5 inches of rain.

The watch area in Northeast Georgia includes the following counties: Elbert, Franklin, Habersham, Hart, Rabun and Stephens.
