A Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 8AM Monday morning for the region.
A major pattern change is underway as a weak upper low has developed along the SE coast during the past 48 hours and a weak surface low has developed over south GA/AL as well. This has allowed a “backdoor” wedge front to push into the region, and this wedge will strengthen during the coming couple of days. These forces will lead to widespread, potentially heavy rain later this afternoon and into Monday. Total rainfall amounts will vary based on the exact placement of storms, however 1-3″ is expected with isolated areas of up to 5″ possible. If you see flooded roadways remember: turn around, don’t drown!
The heavy rain potential will likely carry on into Monday and Tuesday afternoons, with a slight decrease in storm coverage expected. That said, storms will remain likely both afternoons with the wedge strengthening enough to hold our afternoon highs into the low/mid-80’s on Mon/Tue, and possibly only in the upper-70’s by Wednesday.
The models are a bit more diverged heading into next weekend on the potential for more heavy rain, however both show widespread afternoon thunderstorm potential each afternoon with very little in the way of sun.
Everybody have a great day and stay dry!~TW
