Georgia Gives Day is today, Thursday, November 17th, and it’s a great chance for you to help out local charities and agencies that need your support.

This year Habersham Animal Care & Control is teaming up with the nonprofit Fix Georgia Pets to raise money for a spay/neuter program in Habersham County.

Fix Georgia Pets will match every dollar raised on Georgia Gives Day dollar for dollar. HCACC hopes to raise $4,000 – for a total of $8,000 with the matching grant – to pay for 100 surgeries for dogs and cats whose owners can’t afford to fix their pets.

HCACC Director Madi Hawkins says the program is needed to help reduce the number of unwanted litters in the county and lower Habersham’s animal euthanasia rate.

The Georgia Gives Day website offers a convenient, fast, secure way to donate using a credit/debit card or electronic check. If you donate by e-check, make sure to have your bank routing number and account number with you.

Other Habersham County charities and agencies participating in Georgia Gives Day include Breaking Chains Ministries which supports the Freedom Hill recovery center in Demorest; Circle of Hope shelter and services for abused women and their children; Prevent Child Abuse Habersham; and Volunteers for Literacy of Habersham County.
