Plenty of recognition is due to the Habersham Raiders baseball team after their sensational 2017 season to this point, and Wednesday a pair were named BLITZ Players of the Week.
Senior shortstop Brandon Mitchell has had a great season, as has most everyone on the team. Mitchell and junior pitcher/center fielder Jarred Jones were named Players of the Week by BLITZ for their standout performances in a three-game sweep last week over Apalachee.
Mitchell hit .467 (7-for-15) in the series, driving in six runs while scoring six as well. Mitchell added a save in the series finale, his second of the year. Jones hit .500 in the three-game region set, tallying five RBI while notching a win after tossing six innings and allowing just one earned run.
For the season, Mitchell is batting .388 with 13 RBI and 24 runs scored. He and Jones have a team-high seven doubles apiece. Jones is batting .500 for the year, powering up for the team’s only homerun of the season, adding three triples and a team-best 23 RBI. He’s also scored 20 runs and has shown his patience at the plate with 18 walks.
