Two Georgia prison inmates are armed and on the run after authorities say they overpowered and killed two correctional officers in Putnam County.

The inmates are identified as 24-year-old Ricky Dubose and 43-year-old Donnie Russell Rowe.

Dubose is described as 6 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 140 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He was in prison serving a 20 year sentence for aggravated assault, armed robbery, burglary, theft, trespassing, fleeing/eluding police.

Rowe is described as 6 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 181 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He was in prison for aggravated assault, armed robbery and possession of a firearm and was serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Rowe is from Lewisburg, Tennessee. Dubose is from Madison County, Georgia near Athens.

The escapees are being sought for the murders of correctional officers Sgt. Christopher Monica and Sgt. Curtis Billue. Monica had worked with GDC since October 2009. Billue would have marked his tenth year with GDC next month.

Both were killed around 5:45 this morning along Georgia Highway 16 between Eatonton and Sparta. That’s when authorities say the inmates overpowered Monica and Billue on a transport bus. “They then disarmed them and one of the subjects shot and killed both guards,” according to a news release from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

The escaped inmates are now armed with the officers’ .40 caliber Glock pistols.

Authorities say Dubose and Rowe stole a car after killing the officers. A lookout has been issued for a green, 2004 Honda Civic 4 door with Georgia license tag RBJ6601.
