In recent months, the town of Mt. Airy has seen an influx of breaking and entering crimes. In a town that boasts a generally quite atmosphere, these crimes have led police and residents to become more proactive.
Per the city council and interim police Chief Tim Jarrells, the Mt.Airy Police force has been adding shifts, expanding patrol areas and urging citizens to be mindful of their surroundings.
At the August 7 Mt. Airy City Council meeting, the council provided a platform for the public to speak and address their concerns. City Clerk Sherry Berrong says the council was addressed by a resident with their concerns about public safety. The council responded with the city’s commitment to keep all 1,300 town residents safe.
Mt. Airy Police advise all residents and visitors to lock their car doors at home and in town.
