A Flood Watch is in effect for the entire Northeast Georgia region from this afternoon through Thursday morning. This is due to an approaching band of heavy rain that will impact the area through late afternoon and overnight. Widespread rainfall amounts of 2-4″ are expected, with isolated higher amounts possible in the higher elevations, especially of Rabun County. No severe weather is expected, however winds could be a bit gusty with the heaviest showers.
The front will push through the area by late Thursday bringing in some slightly cooler air for Fri/Sat, but the real cold stuff arrives behind a front on Saturday. An isolated shower or two can’t be ruled out, but as of the latest models it looks like a fairly dry frontal passage. Behind it, temps will drop into the 20’s region-wide for the first time this season, and I can’t completely rule out some flurries at the highest elevations on Sunday morning. A very early look at Thanksgiving appears dry and seasonal with highs in the 50’s.
Everyone have an excellent day and I’ll keep you up to date on the latest warnings and the upcoming cold. ~TW
