Everyone is talking about the winter blast that is forecast for the weekend, in addition to that weather officials say we have a threat of flooding late tonight through Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch that includes White, Lumpkin, Towns, Union, Banks, Jackson and other northeast Georgia Counties. Forecasters say soils remain excessively wet across North Georgia with average stream flows of creeks and rivers above normal.

Widespread rain, occasionally heavy at times will develop over the watch area late tonight and continue through Friday evening. Storm total rainfall around two inches can be expected generally north of Interstate 20. The rain will transition to freezing rain … sleet or snow Friday night as cold air begins to dominate the region.
Flooding of streams… creeks and small rivers are possible with temporary street flooding due to poor drainage and clogged storm drains where heavy rain occurs.
Those living in flood prone areas are urged to prepare for possible flooding conditions.
High winds could add to weather-related dangers
A wind advisory has also been issued effective 3am-6pm Friday for much of parts of North Georgia including Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Whitfield, Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Chattanooga, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin and White Counties. Sustained southeasterly winds of between 15-25 mph expected with gusts up to 40 mph.

This combination of saturated soil and high winds could result in falling trees and downed power lines. The National Weather Service warns driving may become difficult, especially in the higher terrain. Loose objects may also be blown around if not secured.
