The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of Northeast Georgia. The advisory in effect until 10pm for the following counties: Banks, Cherokee, Dawson, Fannin, Forsyth, Gilmer, Hall, Lumpkin, Pickens, Towns, Union, White. Accumulations of up to an inch possible with higher amounts possible in elevations above 2000 feet. Accumulations are expected on elevated and grassy surfaces.
Look for temperatures falling into the low 30s in most areas, upper 20s in higher elevations. As temperatures drop roads may become slick, especially on bridges and overpasses. Winds will be from the East at 5-10mph.
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow is in effect until 6am Friday, March 4 for Rabun County. Although Habersham County is not listed in the advisory area the county is seeing significant snowfall. Snow in the region is expected to taper off overnight. Rain may mix in at times in the lowest elevations.
Accumulations of snow expected to be around an inch. 2-3 inches possible near the North Carolina border. Accumulations will mainly affect grassy surfaces in lower valley locations.
The NWS warns you may experience some travel difficulties due to snow on roadways. Temperatures will hover in the 30s. Winds Southeast 5-10mph with gusts up to 15mph becoming Northwest Friday morning.
